First Letter from Appa

My Dear beloved daughter

Now, You are one month old. The past one month, you have spent all the time, drinking your milk and sleeping. Anytime, you cried, you have seen people take care of you. Appa, Amma, Thatha and Patti have sometimes been up all night to make sure that you are happy and peaceful.

When you are old enough to start reading these letters, I want you to learn about morals and righteousness with which we should live. To that effect, let us start with a Thirukural.

Now, Thirukural is a classic of couplets or Kurals written by Tiruvalluvar. The couplets that you find in this book can guide you in life.

The First Thirukural is
“Agara muthala Ezhuthellam Adi
Bhagavan muthatre ulagu”

The meaning of this Thirukural isĀ “A” Leads letters; the Ancient Lord leads and lords the entire world.”.

Remember, God is the one who created us. When he created animals to grow horizontally, he created humans to grow vertically. Why? So that we can look up to him.

He gave animals courage to survive in this world. But, He gave us intelligence to THINK. Why? So that we can make this a better place for us and others around us.

So, Dear Sahana, My first advice to you in life is, “Start the day by thinking of God. Pray to Him. Ask for his guidance.” He will always guide you, help you and be with you in every step of life.

with love
